Profile

I moved from St Andrews to Edinburgh in 1980 and joined Ferranti Defence Systems (now BAe Systems) after graduating from Napier University with a Diploma in Computer Science. For much of the 90’s, I worked in recruitment, mainly working with nurses, occupational & physical therapists and in the later 90’s I also worked with the legal & accountancy professions.

In 2001, I started working as a care assistant with the elderly and for the last 5 years I have worked as a project worker working in the homeless sector in Edinburgh. I was also a Unison shop steward for 2 years, which I gave up in December 2006 because of the elections.

Why politics?

For me, the simple answer is “Iraq”.

The Labour party suckered us into this war for no real reason. How can a government take a country to war and not explain to the people the reasons, if any, why?

RAF Brize Norton, March 2004

So, in 2002/3, I believed all the lies from Tony Blair and his spin doctors about Weapons of Mass Destruction. At the age of 42 I reenlisted in the Territorial Army, and found myself spending weekends running about the countryside with teenage paratroopers. It wasn’t easy going, I can tell you. The rest, as they say, is history.

In 2006, I handed my kit back in.

I felt, and still feel, betrayed by a morally bankrupt government.

It is to Labour’s eternal shame that they did not get rid of Tony Blair when they should have.

I have looked at the Labour party closely and witnessed the problems they have created, not only on the international community, but also at home, in the NHS, in our communities, the breakdown of law & order, the increases in anti social behaviour. When will it end?

It has to stop.

Hopefully, on May 3rd, it will.
